"The horizon of cultural and humanitarian exchanges is expanding unabated and the mutual understanding and friendship between the two countries’ peoples are deepening," Zhang Hanhui stressed
MOSCOW, March 10. /TASS/. Steered by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, the Russian-Chinese relationship demonstrates a highly dynamic pattern, Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui said on Friday.
"Under the strategic guidance of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, <…> Chinese-Russian relations are preserving a highly dynamic trend in the new era," he said at a reception on International Women’s Day. "I would like to note with great satisfaction the development of our relations and political contacts at senior levels and at the highest level, as well as record-breaking trade, which has been reached in spite of negative global trends."
"The horizon of cultural and humanitarian exchanges is expanding unabated and the mutual understanding and friendship between the two countries’ peoples are deepening," he stressed.
Earlier on Friday, Xi, who will turn 70 in June, was reelected as China’s president for an unprecedented third five-year term. This became possible after the Chinese constitution was amended in 2018 to allow the head of state to serve for an unlimited number of terms. As well, the third plenary meeting of the first session of the 14th National People’s Congress voted on Friday to reappoint Xi as chairman of China’s Central Military Commission. The vote was unanimous, as all 2,952 delegates signed off on the move.
Putin has sent a congratulatory telegram to Xi, expressing his confidence that, working together, they would be able to ensure the expansion of Russian-Chinese cooperation in various areas.
