China promises not to supply weapons to Russia — Scholz
According to German Chancellor, "there should be no room for weapons supplies"
BERLIN, March 5. /TASS/. China’s government has promised not to supply weapons to Russia, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Sunday.
"We all share the opinion that there should be no room for weapons supplies. And the Chinese government in this situation pledged that it will supply nothing. We demand that no weapons be supplied to Russia and we are watching this situation," he told a joint news conference with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
In an interview with CNN earlier on Sunday, the German chancellor warned that weapons supplies to Russia will entail consequences for Beijing.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken claimed on February 18 that China was considering supplying weapons and munitions to Russia that would be used in Ukraine. Pentagon Spokesperson Patrick Ryder also said that the US military had registered no weapons transfer from China to Russia but did not exclude that China was looking at such an option. In response, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said that China’s authorities would not tolerate US threats and pressure over alleged military support for Moscow.
