MINSK, March 1. /TASS/. Minsk sees no overt preparations being made for an attack on Belarus but is still confident that the West is getting ready for aggressive actions, Belarusian Presidential Administration Chief of Staff Igor Sergeyenko said on Wednesday.

"We don’t see any clear preparations for an attack on Belarus. However, these signs (the presence of Polish and NATO troops at the Belarusian border - TASS) indicate that such preparations are underway," the BelTA news agency quoted Sergeyenko as saying.

He pointed out that the foreign policy situation around the country was difficult, describing it as "the toughest time" since World War II. "We can see the Polish Armed Forces and NATO building up their military presence along our borders. They actively hold military drills and the intensity of military exercises along our borders has significantly increased in recent years," the official explained.

He noted that Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko had made it perfectly clear that the country would not fight on foreign soil but would respond to an attack. "Any aggression will be met with a swift, stiff and adequate response," Lukashenko said at a Belarusian Security Council meeting on February 20.
