China calls for search of political solution to Ukraine crisis — Wang Yi
"The more complicated the situation becomes, the more necessary it should be not to abandon peace-seeking efforts," the Chinese diplomat said
BEIJING, February 22. /TASS/. China urges not to abandon efforts aimed at achieving peace and finding a political solution to the Ukraine crisis, Chinese top diplomat Wang Yi said on Wednesday at a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
"The more complicated the situation becomes, the more necessary it should be not to abandon peace-seeking efforts. We hope that all parties will be able to overcome difficulties, continue to create conditions for dialogue and negotiations and will be able to find an effective path to a political settlement," the Chinese top diplomat was quoted as saying in a statement of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
In the informal party and state hierarchy of China, Wang Yi is the highest-ranking diplomat that addresses the most crucial issues of China’s foreign policy and its relations with the world’s major powers. In terms of his informal rating, he is superior to Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang, as Wang Yi is a member of the 24-seat Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party’s (CPC) Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission, which is chaired by President Xi Jinping.
