According to Behrooz Kamalvandi, "Iran has not yet tried to enrich [uranium] above 60%”

TEHRAN, February 20. /TASS/. Iran says reports that the country has allegedly achieved an 84% uranium enrichment are nothing but a distortion of facts, Behrooz Kamalvandi, spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), said on Monday, commenting on a Bloomberg publication.

"The published news stories are bogus and distortions of facts," he told the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA), "The existence of highly enriched particles is a natural occurrence in every enrichment process. For example, in the process of enriching uranium to 20%, [the presence of uranium particles with enrichment levels up to] 47% is observed, and in the process of obtaining uranium at 60%, uranium with higher enrichment is also observed."

According to him, "Iran has not yet tried to enrich [uranium] above 60%."

Bloomberg reported on Sunday, citing sources, that following an inspection from International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) auditors last week, it was determined that Iran had enriched uranium to 84%.
