Moldovan government begins to work on denunciation of CIS agreements
It will be carried out on individual agreements with each of the CIS country, Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean said
CHISINAU, February 17. /TASS/. Moldova’s government has begun to work on the denunciation of several agreements signed within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean said on Friday.
"We have begun to work on the denunciation of several agreements signed within the CIS. It will be carried out on individual agreements with each of the CIS country," he said in an interview with the Moldova-1 television channel,
adding that the government will maintain dialogue and sign bilateral agreements with CIS nations.
Meanwhile, Moldovan President Maia Sandu spoke in favor of preserving ties with the Commonwealth, since it implies hundreds of agreements, including bilateral. She called for continuing pragmatic cooperation with the CIS after the country was granted the status of a candidate for the EU membership. However, she has not attended any of the CIS meetings.
Moldova’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vladimir Bolea noted that the country’s withdrawal from the CIS would create another problem for the country’s crisis-gripped economy, since the bulk of its exports goes to the CIS countries.
Meanwhile, according to Moldova’s former President Igor Dodon, the country will not be able to survive without close cooperation with the CIS, the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Russia. He stressed that the policy of the pro-European government had plunged the country into the most profound crisis after Moldovan exporters of agricultural products had lost markets and prices for Russian gas and other energy sources had hiked.
