2,349 people taken to hospitals with injuries

BEIRUT, February 12. /TASS/. The death toll from the devastating earthquake on government-controlled territories in Syria has risen from 1,408 to 1,414 in the past 24 hours, Syrian Health Minister Hassan al-Gabbash said on Sunday.

According to the minister, as many as 2,349 people were taken to hospitals with injuries. "These are not the final figures, bearing in mind the fact that the search and rescue operations are not yet over," to told the Al Mayadeen television channel.

Richard Brennan, Regional Emergency Director for the World Health Organization (WHO) Office for the Eastern Mediterranean Region, said earlier on Sunday that about 4,000 people died in the quake on government-controlled territories in Syria and 2,500 people more were injured. According to the WHO official, the death toll in northwestern Syria is some 4,500 and 7,500 people were injured.
