Martyshev was released from a US jail in December 2022 and transferred to the US migration authorities

NEW YORK, February 9. /TASS/. Russian national Yury Martyshev was released from a US jail has taken off for Qatar and is expected to be in Russia on Thursday, his attorney Alexey Tarasov told TASS on Wednesday.

"As far as I know, Yury took off for Qatar at 10:00 (18:00 Moscow time) today," he said. "He will arrive there, take a connection flight and will be in Moscow on Thursday."

Martyshev was released from a US jail in December 2022 and transferred to the US migration authorities. Last Tuesday, he was released from a detention center and taken to New York to further proceed to Doha.

Martyshev was extradited to the United States from Latvia in July 2017. He agreed to plead guilty to two counts of his indictment, namely a conspiracy to commit a crime and complicity in hacking. The rest of the charges against him were dropped as part of a plea deal. In April 2019, he was sentenced to 6.5 years in prison. Tarasov explained back then that Martyshev’s time in pretrial custody and good behavior in detention were credited toward his sentence, so his actual jail term was around three years and six months.
