ANKARA, February 6. /TASS/. The damage caused by a devastating earthquake to the Turkish province of Kahramanmaras is very serious, the number of casualties is now specified, the province’s governor Omer Faruk Coskun said.
"At the moment, we don't know the exact number of casualties. The damage is very serious," the TRT TV channel quoted him as saying.
The 7.4 magnitude quake struck in the Pazarcik district of Kahramanmarash province at a depth of 7 kilometers at 04:17 local time (coinciding with Moscow time). The earthquakes were then felt in different regions: Adana, Ankara, Antalya, Gaziantep, Kayseri, Mersin, Trabzon and Sanliurfa within half an hour. The destruction was recorded in the following provinces: Adana, Gaziantep, Diyarbakir, Kahramanmaras, Malatya and Sanliurfa. According to the latest data, 76 people were killed, more than 500 injured, and over 100 residential buildings, including multi-storey residential buildings, were destroyed.
