ANKARA, January 25. /TASS/. The United States may send 30 to 50 M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, Anadolu reported on Wednesday, citing a US official.

"A battalion of Abrams tanks, or 30 to 50 battle tanks, may be supplied," the state-run Turkish news agency quoted the US official as saying.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday that the US Administration was leaning toward providing a significant number of M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine. According to the WSJ, the move would be part of Washington’s agreement with Germany under which Berlin itself would provide a small number of Leopard 2 tanks to Kiev, and approve deliveries of these German-made tanks by Poland and other countries.

Politico also said the US may send at least 30 Abrams tanks as military assistance to Ukraine. The vehicles would be purchased rather than pulled from existing US stockpiles, according to the newspaper. US President Joe Biden may make such an announcement as early as on Wednesday.
