Air defense top priority of military aid to Kiev — German defense minister
It is stressed that Western aid "should be oriented at the specific needs" of the Kiev regime
BERLIN, January 20. /TASS/. Supplying air defense systems to Ukraine is the greatest priority of Western military aid to Kiev, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius told reporters on Friday, as aired by the N-TV channel.
"Germany won’t slacken its efforts to support Ukraine," he insisted. That said, the official stressed that Western aid "should be oriented towards specific needs" of the Kiev regime. "The number one priority is air defense," he said. He reiterated that as early as January, the Ukrainian military will train in Germany to use Patriot air defense systems and Marder infantry fighting vehicles which Berlin will supply to Kiev. The top military official estimated Germany’s total expenses on military aid to Ukraine at roughly €3.3 bln.
He said that the situation in Ukraine was "highly dramatic." In his opinion, the conflict there will continue for many months.
Earlier on Friday, Pistorius participated in a meeting of defense ministers of about 50 countries where further aid to Ukraine was discussed.
