KIEV, January 17. /TASS/. Ukraine’s presidential office has accepted the resignation of top Zelensky aide Alexey Arestovich, spokesman for the Ukrainian leader, Sergey Nikiforov, told Ukrainskaya Pravda on Tuesday.

The newspaper quoted Nikiforov as saying that "Maria Vitushok, who heads the staff of the Ukrainian president’s office, has signed off on instructions to relieve Arestovich of his duties."

Earlier on Tuesday, Arestovich announced that he was stepping down. In a written notice of relinquishing his position, he said that he would like to set "an example of civilized behavior" as he admitted to having made "a fundamental error."

On the evening of January 14, Arestovich said that part of a residential building in Dnepropetrovsk had collapsed because a projectile shot down by Ukrainian air defenses fell on it. Following this, he was sharply criticized by Ukrainian society.

On Monday, Ukrainian legislator Alexey Goncharenko reported that a petition to fire Arestovich was launched. The lawmaker accused him of high treason for his remarks about the causes of the building partially collapsing in Dnepropetrovsk.
