US State Department, Pentagon officials travel to Ukraine, hold meetings
In Kiev the US delegation met with Prime Minister Denis Shmygal to discuss how US and international assistance has helped stabilize Ukraine’s economy
WASHINGTON, January 17. /TASS/. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, Under Secretary of Defense Colin Kahl, Principal Deputy National Security Advisor Jon Finer traveled to Kiev on Monday to meet with senior Ukrainian officials, the US State Department and the Pentagon said in a joint statement.
The senior members of the US government went to Ukraine to meet with the country’s President Vladimir Zelenskyy, members of his office and other senior Ukrainian officials "to reaffirm the United States’ strong and steadfast commitment to Ukraine," the statement said.
"Prior to the visit, the delegation made stops in Germany and Poland to review US security assistance to Ukraine," it said.
In Kiev the US delegation met with Prime Minister Denis Shmygal "to discuss how US and international assistance has helped stabilize Ukraine’s economy and how we can develop an enduring US-Ukraine trade and investment partnership as Ukraine rebuilds," according to the statement.
The Americans also met with Defense Minister Alexey Reznikov "to discuss diplomatic efforts and security assistance."
In a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Kubrakov and Ukrenergo CEO Vladimir Kudritsky, they "reviewed emergency efforts to repair and sustain Ukraine’s energy system," the statement said.
