Russian national Artyom Uss detained in Italy asks for extradition to Russia — report
According to the ANSA news agency, judges in Milan have not yet made a decision as to whether to extradite the Russian national to the US
ROME, January 16. /TASS/. Russian businessman Artyom Uss, detained in Italy at the request of the US, has asked that he be extradited to Russia , where he is also wanted on charges of fraud.
According to the ANSA news agency, judges in Milan have not yet made a decision as to whether to extradite the Russian national to the US, where he faces charges of sanctions evasion and money laundering, which may carry a sentence of up to 30 years in prison.
At the same time, Russia’s relevant bodies have also filed an extradition request.
The court ruling has been postponed because the defense requested detailed information on where he will be detained and under what charges he will be tried in case of extradition to the US. According to the defense, in Italy, Uss’ alleged crimes carry much shorter sentences or are not criminally prosecuted at all. The defense also believes that the American side might use Artyom Uss - the son of Krasnoyarsk Region Governor Alexander Uss - in an exchange for US nationals arrested in Russia.
Uss was detained on October 17 at the Malpensa Airport in Milan. Later, a Russian court issued an international arrest warrant over charges of money laundering on a large scale; Russia also intends to demand Uss’ extradition.
