Diplomat says accession of Sweden, Finland to NATO to deal blow to Europe’s security

Alexander Grushko said Hungary will most likely ratify the agreement for Sweden and Finland to join NATO

MOSCOW, November 30. /TASS/. Russia assumes that Sweden and Finland will join NATO and believes it will hurt pan-European security, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko told TASS on Wednesday.

"Of course, one should assume that Sweden and Finland will become NATO members. It will be another blow not only to pan-European security, but also will affect regional security in the north in a very negative manner. Our position is well-known. We will adjust our potential moves to meet the interests of defense and security with the situation on the ground," the deputy minister said.

He said Hungary will most likely ratify the agreement for Sweden and Finland to join NATO.

"It’s probable that they (Hungary - TASS) will, of course, ratify the agreement. It’s no secret," Grushko said. "We should proceed based on reality, and the reality is such that it takes all member states to ratify the accession agreement to become a NATO member."
