Chinese government to stop ‘hostile forces’ from disrupting country’s stability - Xinhua

The members of the Communist Party noted "the need to firmly protect state security and social stability"

BEIJING, November 29. /TASS/. The Chinese government plans to use legal grounds to stop "hostile forces" that seek to compromise the country’s security and social stability, the Xinhua news service said on Tuesday, citing a readout from a meeting of the Communist Party's Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission.

According to the report, the commission noted "the need to firmly protect state security and social stability".

"It’s necessary, in accordance with the law, to deal a decisive blow to hostile forces that organize destructive events," it said.

The commission’s members said the Government should, in accordance with the law, harshly suppress "unlawful criminal acts that disturb public order".

"It’s necessary to ensure universal social stability at any cost," they said.

Members of the commission, the report said, also proposed to strengthen responsibility for ensuring safe production "throughout the country and in all posts." They highlighted the need to "completely eradicate hidden risks, prevent major incidents, provide people with guarantees of safe life and preservation of property."

On Sunday, the Hong Kong newspaper South China Morning Post reported that protests erupted over the weekend in several cities of the PRC as people sought to vent their frustration with Covid-related restrictions. Some countries, for example the UK, as well as the UN, criticized the law enforcement measures taken by the Chinese government in response to these protests. China’s Foreign Ministry said local residents have a wide range of rights and freedoms, but all their actions must comply with national law.
