Iran’s Foreign Ministry believes Western countries helped organize protests in country

On November 22, Iranian judiciary spokesman Masoud Setayeshi said 40 foreign nationals had been arrested in Iran during the protests that swept the Islamic Republic

MOSCOW, November 28. /TASS/. The Iranian Foreign Ministry believes that Western countries were directly involved in organizing protests in the country, the ministry’s spokesman, Nasser Kanaani, said on Monday.

"Detailed information on the involvement of Western countries that are associated with the United States in the organization of protests in Iran was provided to the heads of diplomatic missions of these states in Tehran," he said, the Mehr news service reported. "In addition, citizens of some foreign countries participated in the riots, for which there is plenty of evidence. The facts at hand have been made available to the governments of the countries involved."

Kanaani didn’t specify which countries he was referring to.

On November 22, Iranian judiciary spokesman Masoud Setayeshi said 40 foreign nationals had been arrested in Iran during the protests that swept the Islamic Republic. They are all facing trial.

On November 17, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian accused Israel and some Western politicians of planning to organize a civil war in Iran that would lead to the disintegration of the country.

Iran has been gripped by protests since the funeral of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini on September 16. According to the official version, this Kurdish girl was detained by the police for not wearing her headscarf properly. During an interrogation, she suffered a heart attack and died. Social media, however, spread word that Amini had been beaten by police.
