Zelensky calls for stripping Russia of right to vote in UNSC
He also called for stripping Russia of the right to veto UN Security Council resolutions
KIEV, November 24. /TASS/. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has called for stripping Russia of its right to vote at the United Nations Security Council and of its right to veto its resolutions.
"A terrorist state (as Ukraine calls Russia - TASS) cannot take part in any voting concerning its aggression and terror. It is a path to nowhere," he said in a video address to emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on Ukraine, which was convened at Kiev’s request.
He also called for stripping Russia of the right to veto UN Security Council resolutions. These measures, in his words, "will restore justice inside the UN structure."
This is not the first such call. Thus, in his video address to the UN General Assembly session on September 22, Zelensky also called for depriving Russia of the right to veto in the UN Security Council. Punishing Russia is part of the "peace formula," he claimed.
Apart from that, Zelensky called on the UN Security Council to pass resolution "condemning any forms of energy terrorism."
He also repeated his request for supplies of air defense systems. "We are asking our partners to defend our skies," he said. "We need state-of-the-art effective air and missile defense systems. And I am grateful to all those who are already helping up."
Russia’s First Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dmitry Polyansky said earlier that Zelensky’s online participation in the meeting violated the UN Security Council’s rules of procedure.
