Mass power outages begin in Moldova, says Deputy Prime Minister
Non-recognized Transnistria was also left completely without electricity on Wednesday, the TSV TV channel reported
CHISINAU, November 23. /TASS/. Mass power outages began on Wednesday in Moldova due to failures in the Ukrainian energy system, the country’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spinu said.
"Due to the situation with the energy system of Ukraine in the last hour, we are experiencing mass power outages throughout the country. ‘Moldelectrica’ is working to restore power supply," he wrote on his Telegram channel.
Moldelectrica, the country's power system operator, said it was working to restore power. Earlier, at the order of the government, the data on its website were classified.
Non-recognized Transnistria was also left completely without electricity on Wednesday, the TSV TV channel reported. It noted that reports about the lack of electricity came from a number of settlements, from Ribnita to Dnestrovsk. There was also no electricity in Parcani, near Tiraspol.
The Moldovan energy system has been connected to the Ukrainian and Transnistrian grids since Soviet times, where the Cuciurgan power station, connecting them, is located. If there are failures or damage, the system automatically shuts down the power supply in order to avoid accidents. To get it working again, an appropriate program has to check its condition.
