COVID-19 cases rising in Moscow and 19 other Russian regions, watchdog says

"Under the circumstances, consulting a clinic on time is especially important, for only a doctor can make an accurate diagnosis and prescribe appropriate treatment," Rospotrebnadzor concluded

MOSCOW, November 18. /TASS/.Coronavirus cases have been on the rise in 20 Russian regions, including the capital and the Moscow Region, the country’s sanitary watchdog told reporters on Friday.

"The situation with COVID-19 is characterized by an intensifying epidemiologic process. COVID-19 cases are rising in 20 regions, including in Moscow (+30.9%) and the Moscow Region (+4.3%). Over the past month, the number of pneumonia cases among COVID-19 outpatients has risen from 1.9% to 2.9%, which is also a concern," Rospotrebnadzor said in a statement.

Though the symptoms of flu and COVID-19 are similar at the early stage of an infection, the two illnesses are treated differently, and a differential diagnosis with a timely testing is needed for an accurate prescription, the watchdog explained.

"Under the circumstances, consulting a clinic on time is especially important, for only a doctor can make an accurate diagnosis and prescribe appropriate treatment," Rospotrebnadzor concluded.

On Thursday, the federal anti-coronavirus crisis center reported an increase in confirmed coronavirus cases in Russia by 5,680 over the past day, with 61 deaths.
