UN doesn’t see signs conflict in Ukraine is ending — UN under-secretary-general
Incident in Poland near the Ukrainian border was a frightening reminder of the absolute need to prevent any further escalation, UN Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo said
UNITED NATIONS, November 17. /TASS/. UN Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo on Wednesday said there’s no end in sight to the conflict in Ukraine while the potential for catastrophic spillover is very real.
"Indeed, there is no end in sight to the [conflict]. As long as it continues, the risks of potentially catastrophic spillover remain all too real," she said at a meeting of the UN Security Council. "Yesterday’s incident in Poland near the Ukrainian border was a frightening reminder of the absolute need to prevent any further escalation."
On Tuesday, a missile fell in the village of Przewodow in eastern Poland’s Lublin Voivodeship on the border with Ukraine, killing two people. According to Polish President Andrzej Duda, that was not a deliberate attack on Poland. Warsaw has ascertained that most likely the S-300 missile produced in the 1970s was fired by the Ukrainian air defenses. The Russian Defense Ministry said Moscow did not strike the area near the Ukrainian-Polish border. The ministry said that, judging by the published photos, the debris had nothing to do with Russian munitions.
