German chancellor says it is important to maintain contact with Putin

Scholz visited Moscow on February 15 and had talks with President Putin

BALI /Indonesia/, November 15. /TASS/. It is important to continue communication with Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Tuesday.

"Before the war, I had a long conversation with him in Moscow. After that, I spoke with him over the phone at certain intervals," he told journalists at the Group of Twenty summit in Indonesia’s Bali. His speech was televised by Germany’s N-TV.

Scholz visited Moscow on February 15 and had talks with President Putin.

The German chancellor noted that he thinks that such contact is very important. "We can thoroughly discuss those matters we have different views on," he said, once again calling on Russia to withdraw its troops from Ukraine.

He also said that it is equally important to maintain a dialogue with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.

On February 24, Putin launched a special military operation in Ukraine in response to a request for help from the heads of the Donbass republics. After that, the West imposed sweeping sanctions against Russia and beefed up arms supplies to the Kiev regime worth tens of billions of dollars.
