Biden, Erdogan discuss terror attack in Istanbul, grain deal, cooperation within NATO

"The two also discussed continued close coordination on NATO Alliance issues, and other issues of regional and global concern," the White House said

WASHINGTON, November 15. /TASS/. The terror attack in Istanbul, the possible renewal of the Ukraine grain deal, and coordination within NATO were among the topics discussed by presidents Joe Biden of the United States and Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Indonesia, the White House said on Tuesday.

"President Biden expressed his deep condolences to President Erdogan and the people of Turkey on the acts of violence in Istanbul and made clear we stand with our NATO Ally. President Biden expressed his appreciation to President Erdogan for his efforts to renew the Black Sea Grain Initiative, which they both agreed has been critical to improving global food security" amid the conflict in Ukraine, it said, adding that the presidents agreed that this initiative "must continue."

"The two also discussed continued close coordination on NATO Alliance issues, and other issues of regional and global concern," the White House said.

Meanwhile, the Turkish presidential administration said that Biden had promised that Washington would continue its support of the sale of F-16 fighter jets to Turkey. "He [Biden] also stressed that Turkey is an important player in the process of Sweden’s accession to NATO," it said.

Apart from that, the leaders discussed bilateral ties and issues of trade and security, it added.
