The 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-27), which officially started its work on Sunday in the Egyptian city of Sharm El Sheikh, will host 62,000 participants, Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid reported on Monday.

"There will be 62,000 people coming to Sharm El Sheikh to participate in the SOP-27," the Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman pointed out. According to him, "this is the largest number of representatives of different countries registered at such international forums held under the UN auspices." According to Abu Zeid, the record number of participants in the COP-27 "confirms the degree of importance and attention to climate change issues and related problems."

The UN climate conference officially began its work on Sunday.

During the current forum, which will last until November 18, hundreds of events related to the COP-27 agenda will be held in Sharm El Sheikh. The most significant of them will be the meeting of the global leaders on November 7 and 8, when the heads of states and governments will make "national speeches" in which they will present positions and visions of their countries on current problems of the environment, resource saving, food supply, protection from natural disasters, green energy, financial support to the poorest countries for programs to prevent climate changes.

According to the COP-27 organizing committee, leaders from 110 countries will attend the conference in Sharm El Sheikh. COP-27 will be covered by over than 3,000 journalists.
