North Korea’s missile flies over Japan, lands in Pacific Ocean, says Japan’s Coast Guard
J-alert emergency alert system has been activated in the country
TOKYO, November 3. /TASS/. North Korea has presumably launched a ballistic missile toward northeast Japan, Japan’s Coast Guard reported on Thursday.
The J-Alert warning system activated in Japan due to the launch. According to the warning sent, the trajectory of the missile ran through Japan’s airspace in the area of Niigata, Yamagata and Miyagi prefectures toward the Pacific Ocean. The area residents were asked to stay clear of windows, remain inside the buildings or underground facilities.
Meanwhile, the Yonhap news agency said North Korea had launched an intermediate-or long-range ballistic missile as the presumed propellant and warhead of the missile separated during the flight.
According to preliminary data, the missile landed in the Pacific Ocean, Japan’s Coast Guard said. The landing area is outside of Japan’s exclusive economic zone, the NHK TV channel said, adding that the country’s defense forces did not attempt to shoot down North Korea’s missile.
