CSTO Council comes out for diplomatic solution of Baku-Yerevan disputes

MOSCOW, October 28. /TASS/. The Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) has come out in favor of resolving the disputes between Baku and Yerevan by political and diplomatic means, as follows from a news release uploaded to the CSTO website on Friday after an urgent session of the organization's Collective Security Council.
"The members of the Collective Security Council, reaffirming the organization's commitment to strengthening peace and international and regional security and stability, collectively protecting the independence and territorial integrity and sovereignty of the CSTO member-states, discussed the current situation in the region and joint measures to provide assistance to the Republic of Armenia," the news release reads.
"A firm conviction was expressed to the effect the existing contradictions and contentious issues should be resolved by political and diplomatic means, including in line with the agreements set out in the tripartite statements adopted on November 9, 2020, January 11, 2021 and November 26, 2021 by Armenia’s Prime Minister, the President of Russia and the President of Azerbaijan," the CSTO said.

"During the session, a report by CSTO Secretary-General Stanislav Zas was heard concerning the organization’s mission, sent to the Republic of Armenia on September 15, 2022 at the decision of the CSTO CSC in connection with an aggravation of the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, where on September 13, 2022 there were night-time military clashes involving the use of heavy weapons and UAVs, which led to heavy casualties," the organization said.
"At the session, the members of the CSTO Collective Security Council made a number of proposals for finalizing the drafts of relevant decisions," the CSTO stressed.
The session took place on Friday by video link. The session was attended by Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and CSTO Secretary-General Stanislav Zas.
