Pentagon in touch with SpaceX on Starlink operation in Ukraine, says spokesman
The US DoD is working to resolve the details, Pentagon spokesperson Lt. Colonel Garron Garn said
WASHINGTON, October 18. /TASS/. The Pentagon has been in touch with SpaceX on the operation of the satellite communication system Starlink in Ukraine, "working to resolve the details," Pentagon spokesperson Lt. Colonel Garron Garn told TASS on Monday.
"The [US] DoD has been in touch with SpaceX and is working to resolve the details," he said.
The Politico newspaper wrote earlier on Monday citing sources that the Pentagon was considering the possibility of paying for Starlink operation in Ukraine. SpaceX founder Elon Musk said later the company had already withdrawn its request to the Pentagon on funding the work of the satellite communication system Starlink in Ukraine.
On October 13, CNN said it had obtained a copy of a letter, in which SpaceX notified the US Department of Defense that it would stop paying for the operation of the Starlink system in Ukraine and had no plans for providing Kiev with new terminals indefinitely. According to the broadcaster, the message also contained a request to the Pentagon for paying for the supply of additional Starlink terminals to Kiev, as well as for the system’s services provided to the Ukrainian authorities and military.
On October 15, Musk said he would continue paying for the operation of Starlink in Ukraine independently despite losses.
