In his words, the suspension of the negotiation process between Russia and Ukraine was expected, but the sides are likely to return to the negotiating table "at some point."

NEW YORK, September 8. /TASS/. Talks between Russia and Ukraine are likely to resume someday, said Ibrahim Kalin, an official spokesman for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdgogan.

In his words, the suspension of the negotiation process between Russia and Ukraine was expected, but the sides are likely to return to the negotiating table "at some point."

"The question is: When we will come back to it and how much damage will have been done by then?" the spokesman told CNN on Friday.

In his opinion, the Russian side counts on "a new deal with the West."

"It's partly about Ukraine, no doubt. But the larger issue is really a new deal between Russia and the Western world," Kalin said.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky earlier enacted a decision by the National Security and Defense Council that it was impossible to negotiate with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. The corresponding decree was published on the website of the office of the Ukrainian President. Commenting on this decision, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that two parties are needed for negotiations, so Russia will wait for a change in the position of the current or next president of Ukraine regarding dialogue with Moscow.
