Ambassador blasts UK minister for opposing Russia’s help with Nord Stream investigation

It is reported that the Nord Stream AG company on September 27 reported that three threads of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 offshore gas pipelines had suffered unprecedented damage on the previous day

MOSCOW, October 7. /TASS/. Russian Ambassador to London Andrey Kelin on Friday ripped into UK Defense Minister Ben Wallace for opposing Russia’s wish to help in the investigation of the accidents at the Nord Stream underwater pipelines.

"I haven’t seen any specific statements [by London] that Russia did it. Nonetheless, I have seen a statement by [UK] Defense Minister [Ben] Wallace who said Russia shouldn’t be involved in the investigation, although it needs to be said that neither Wallace, as a defense minister, nor the UK in general have anything to do with Nord Stream 2. It’s not within British territorial waters or economic zone, and the country doesn’t get any gas from there. So, basically, that’s addressed to no one. That statement is absolutely unsubstantiated," the ambassador said on Rossiya-24 television.

The Nord Stream AG company on September 27 reported that three threads of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 offshore gas pipelines had suffered unprecedented damage on the previous day. Swedish seismologists later reported that two explosions had been recorded along the Nord Stream pipelines. The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office has initiated an investigation into an international terrorist attack following the damage to the pipelines. Nord Stream had been suspended since the end of August due to issues related to maintenance of Siemens turbines, which were caused by Western sanctions. Still, the pipelines were filled with natural gas. Nord Stream 2, which was finished in 2021 but was not operating, was also filled with gas.
