Sanya hotels offer 50% discount to tourists because of COVID-19

Resort officials sent inspectors to make sure hotels are not overcharging for accommodations

SANYA, August 9. /TASS/. Authorities in the southern Chinese resort city of Sanya (Hainan Province) have instructed hotels to provide a 50% discount for tourists unable to leave the city because of the COVID-19 outbreak. This was reported by China Central Television.

According to the channel, at present there are about 58.9 thousand tourists, 25 thousand of whom are staying at the hotels. Discounted rates are available from August 6.

Resort authorities sent inspectors who will make sure that hotels are not overcharging for accommodation and are fully complying with the instructions of the city government, the TV channel noted. Authorities also opened a special hotline, which tourists can use to report suspected violations or misconduct on the part of the hotel administration.

A total of 1,314 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Hainan province since August 1. In addition, 585 asymptomatic carriers of the coronavirus infection have been identified. The largest number of them, 1,045 cases and 513 asymptomatic carriers, come from the Sanya resort.
