Canada’s PM discusses further support to Ukraine with Zelensky

The Prime Minister of Canada and the President of Ukraine had a telephone conversation

GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN /Germany/, June 27. /TASS/. Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has held a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to discuss the situation in Ukraine and further assistance to the country from Ottawa and the G7, the Canadian government reported on Sunday.

"Today (on June 26 - TASS), Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, while at the G7 Summit [in Germany]," the Canadian government’s press service said in a statement. The two leaders "discussed what further assistance Canada and G7 countries could provide to Ukraine," the statement read. Trudeau and Zelensky also discussed food security.

The Canadian PM is attending the G7 summit in Elmau in southern Germany. The three-day talks are expected to focus on the situation in Ukraine and the impact of anti-Russian sanctions.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a special military operation in Ukraine in response to a request from the leaders of the two Donbass republics. The Russian leader stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukraine, but the goal was to demilitarize and denazify the country. The West responded with sweeping sanctions against Russia, including personal restrictions. Also, Western countries have been ramping up arms supplies to Kiev worth billions of dollars.
