Latin America suffers from consequences of conflict in Ukraine — President of Argentina
Alberto Fernandez called for a solution to the conflict as soon as possible
BUENOS AIRES, June 25. /TASS/. Latin America and other countries of the Southern Hemisphere have been under attack due to the consequences of the conflict in Ukraine, Argentine President Alberto Fernandez said on Friday. He was speaking at a meeting in the BRICS Plus format, in which he took part via video link.
"I want the whole world to hear that although the war is going on in Europe, its tragic consequences are felt in Latin America and the Caribbean, in Africa and throughout the southern hemisphere. We are the periphery that suffers," he said as quoted by the government’s press service.
In this regard, the President of Argentina called for a solution to the conflict as soon as possible. "Peace must be achieved urgently, because it is urgent to make the world more equal," the head of state believes. He also added that Argentina "wants to participate in the search for a solution that will bring together all involved" parties.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation based on a request from the heads of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow had no plans to occupy Ukrainian territories and the goal was to demilitarize and denazify the country. In response to Moscow's decision, the West imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia.
