Partnership with Russia to be unimaginable in foreseeable future, Germany’s Scholz says

However, it will be "unwise" for NATO to condemn the Russia-NATO Founding Act," because only Moscow will benefit from that, he also noted

BERLIN, June 22. /TASS/. The partnership with Russia, outlined in the 2010 NATO Strategic Concept would be unimaginable in the foreseeable future, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said, speaking in the Bundestag Wednesday.

"The partnership with Russia, as it is stated in the 2010 Strategic Concept, is unimaginable in the foreseeable future," Scholz stated.

Meanwhile, the Chancellor stated that it would be "unwise" for NATO to condemn the Russia-NATO Founding Act," because only Moscow will benefit from that.

The Russia-NATO Founding Act was signed in May 1997. The document states that the sides will "build together a lasting and inclusive peace in the Euro-Atlantic area on the principles of democracy and cooperative security." The act also states that Russia and NATO "do not consider each other as adversaries."

The new NATO strategic concept is expected to be adopted at the June 28-30 NATO summit in Madrid. Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Russia will no longer be viewed as a strategic partner in the new concept.
