WASHINGTON, June 13. /TASS/. The White House continues to plan the visit of US President Joe Biden to Saudi Arabia, a spokesperson at the White House’s National Security Council told TASS on Sunday.

Earlier the Axios portal reported referring to sources in Israel that in mid-July Biden is expected to visit Israel and the Palestinian Authority before traveling on to Saudi Arabia. The visit to Saudi Arabia was scheduled for July 15 but the sources of the portal warned that the timing had shifted several times and could change again.

"We continue to plan for a trip to Israel and Saudi Arabia. We have no further trip details to confirm, but we will announce as soon as we do," the NSC spokesperson told TASS responding to a request to confirm the information that the visit of the US President to Israel and Saudi Arabis is scheduled for July.

"The trip comes in the context of a significant agenda with Saudi Arabia, Israel, and the other countries of the Middle East. That agenda is focused on delivering results for the American people as well as ending wars and leading through diplomacy to bring stability to the Middle East region," the US official added.

On Saturday, Biden said he had not yet made a final decision about his possible visit to Saudi Arabia. At the same time, he mentioned a more general meeting in the kingdom on security issues, journalists from the White House press corps said.

Earlier the New York Times reported, citing sources, that Biden intends to travel to Saudi Arabia this month and meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud for the first time. According to the publication, the American leader wants to restore relations between the two countries, which deteriorated after the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018.

According to the New York Times, during his election campaign, Biden vowed to make Saudi Arabia a "pariah" state." According to experts interviewed by the newspaper, if it takes place "the visit represents the triumph of realpolitik over moral outrage" and will be aimed at trying to lower oil prices in the face of US attempts to isolate Russia because of the situation around Ukraine.
