Russia’s deputy envoy to UN points to rising tensions on Korean Peninsula

The West ignores the fact that Pyongyang’s repeated calls on the US to end its hostile activities, opening opportunities for dialogue, have never been taken seriously, Anna Yevstigneyeva pointed out

UNITED NATIONS, June 8. /TASS/. Tensions on the Korean Peninsula will escalate further unless the political settlement process moves forward, Russia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Anna Yevstigneyeva said at a UN General Assembly meeting on North Korea on Wednesday.

"The lack of progress on the political track may lead to a further rise in the tensions on the peninsula that we are already seeing," she pointed out.

"We saw the situation on the peninsula only worsen in the past year. Our Western colleagues are used to putting all the blame on the North Korean authorities, ignoring the fact that Pyongyang’s repeated calls on the US to end its hostile activities, opening opportunities for dialogue, have never been taken seriously," Yevstigneyeva noted.

The Russian diplomat also emphasized that "the creation of new military blocs in the region, such as an alliance of the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia, raises serious doubts about the good intentions of these countries, particularly from Pyongyang".
