Moscow urges Washington to admit US arms used to kill civilians in Ukraine
Residential areas outside the battle zone since 2014 are now deliberately being targeted, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stressed
MOSCOW, June 3. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has called for a response from Washington over evidence showing the use of US-supplied weapons against civilians in Ukraine.
Ukraine "used large-caliber, long-range guns for attacks [on the Donbass republics], and fragments [of weapons] marked as manufactured in the US were found," the Russian diplomat said on Friday. She said she expected a comment from the Pentagon or the US State Department later today.
"Ukrainian neo-Nazis have been actively using American-supplied weapons against civilians, acting under pressure from the US," Zakharova noted. She emphasized that children and teens were not being spared, while residential areas outside the battle zone since 2014 were now deliberately being targeted.
The MFA spokeswoman also said the decision by US President Joe Biden to equip Ukraine with rocket systems that can hit targets at a distance of up to 80 kilometers in addition to French, Polish, US, German and Slovak-made long-range artillery guns already in service with Ukrainian nationalists would likely lead to more civilian deaths.
"And as long as the United States frets so much over the fate of civilians, it should be held accountable for its actions, because it is Washington that has been supplying these weapons and it bears responsibility for the loss of innocent lives," she concluded.
