Azerbaijan slams Armenia for attempt to escalate border tension

It is reported that the Azerbaijani forces took adequate measures in response

BAKU, June 3. /TASS/. Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry reported shooting on the border with Armenia on Friday, accusing Yerevan of an attempt to escalate tensions.

In the early hours of June 3, Armenian forces shelled the Azerbaijani positions from mortars and large-caliber guns "in the direction of the villages of Zeylik and Yellije," the Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The Azerbaijani forces "took adequate measures in response", according to the ministry. Azerbaijan suffered no losses in manpower and materiel, the ministry stressed.

"Armenia, seeking to divert the public’s attention from internal processes, is trying to escalate tensions on the border, using large-caliber weapons," the Defense Ministry said, laying "full responsibility for the consequences" on Armenia’s leadership.
