Russian journalist Dmitry Muratov offers Nobel Peace Prize medal for auction

MOSCOW, June 1. /TASS/. Chief Editor of Russia’s Novaya Gazeta newspaper Dmitry Muratov will auction off his Nobel Peace Prize medal through Heritage Auctions, the paper said in a statement on Telegram on Wednesday.

"On June 1, which is marked as Day for Protection of Children in Russia and Ukraine, an auction was launched at HA.com with the assistance of the Heritage auction house, where Novaya Gazeta Chief Editor Dmitry Muratov will offer his 2021 Nobel Peace Prize medal for sale," the statement reads.

The medal will be sold in New York on June 20. According to the newspaper, all proceeds will go to UNICEF.

Muratov earlier announced plans to auction off his Nobel medal to help Ukrainian refugees. The journalist told TASS in October 2021 that he would donate his Nobel Peace Prize money to charitable organizations.

In October 2021, the Nobel Committee awarded the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize to Muratov and Philippine journalist Maria Ressa "for their efforts to safeguard freedom of expression, which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace.".
