West's gambit to cause rift in Russia-China ties doomed to fail, says senior diplomat
Moscow appreciates that Beijing has taken an unbiased position on the Ukrainian issue, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov also noted
MOSCOW, June 1. /TASS/. Attempts by the West to split Russian-Chinese ties are doomed to failure, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov said.
"It is obvious that the line to split Russia-China relations is obviously doomed to failure," he said on Wednesday during the 7th international conference 'Russia and China: Cooperation in a New Era'.
The deputy foreign minister added that relations between Moscow and Beijing, even taking into account today's events, remain "unshakable." "A characteristic feature of relations between Moscow and Beijing is a constant <...> a rock among a turbulent current, unshakable, stable Russian-Chinese relations even against the background of the most turbulent, difficult, crisis phenomena that we are witnessing today," the deputy minister said.
Morgulov noted that Russia appreciates Beijing's open-mindedness regarding the Ukrainian crisis, as well as China's stance on NATO. "We appreciate that Beijing has taken an unbiased position on the Ukrainian issue from the very beginning, we appreciate that our Chinese friends condemn NATO for artificially creating a security crisis in Europe and the bloc's unjustified expansion to the east," he said.
