MINSK, May 26. /TASS/. Chairman of the Belarusian Investigative Committee Dmitry Gora on Thursday said foreign special services prepared provocations during Belarusian presidential elections of 2020 that could have hurt hundreds of people.
"Since 2019, [foreign] special services had been preparing operations similar to what happened in the Maidan in Ukraine," he said on ONT television. "And a provocation was being prepared with victims, with shooting, with the work of snipers."
He said, Belarusian security forces "reacted strongly to these processes and stopped them."
"If this hadn’t happened, then there would have been victims, there would have been hundreds of them," Gora said.
He said that law enforcement agencies had identified a man who was preparing to commit acts of violence in Belarus.
"It’s is a citizen of Georgia. As part of the investigation of a conspiracy to seize power, treason, this person was interrogated as a witness," Gora said. "We found out the details in order to confirm his testimony with objective facts. To date, work is underway, and the facts stated by this person are being confirmed.
