Armenian opposition activists block Foreign Ministry building

According to one of the leaders of the protest rally, the ministry does not serve the interests of Armenia and Armenian people anymore

YEREVAN, May 24. /TASS/. Several thousand supporters of the Resistance opposition movement broke through police cordons and blocked entrances to the building of the Armenian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday morning. The protest rally is being broadcast live by local news portals.

"This agency does not serve the interests of Armenia and Armenian people anymore," Vice President of the National Assembly of Armenia Ishkhan Saghatelyan who is one of the leaders of the protest rally said.

The opposition is protesting the Brussels meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev mediated by Head of the European Council Charles Michel where the sides did not discuss the status of Nagorno-Karabakh. Pashinyan’s opponents think that this indicates that Armenia’s authorities agreed to recognize Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan.
