Pentagon Chief tells Ukraine’s counterpart about phone call with Russian Defense Minister

Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin told Ukrainian Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov in a phone conversation on Sunday about his conversation with Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu on May 13, US Defense Department spokesman John Kirby said in a written statement following the talks.
According to him, Austin and Reznikov discussed the situation in Ukraine and the needs of Kiev in armaments.
"Secretary Austin provided an update on his May 13th phone call with Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu in which he urged an immediate end to the conflict in Ukraine and emphasized the importance of maintaining lines of communication. Secretary Austin reiterated the unwavering U.S. support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and security assistance efforts to bolster Ukraine’s capacity to counter Russian aggression. The leaders pledged to remain in close contact," Kirby said.
