Alan Gagloyev winning runoff presidential polls in South Ossetia — preliminary results

He has 3,686 votes, or 59.21%

TSKHINVAL, May 8. /TASS/. Alan Gagloyev, leader of the Nykhas political party and candidate for South Ossetia’s president, is leading Sunday’s runoff polls with 59.21% of the vote, the country’s Central Election Commission (CEC) said after counting 18% of protocols from district election commissions.

"Eighteen percent of protocols from district election commission have been counted. <…> As of now, the vote distribution is as follows: [incumbent President] Anatoly Bibilov has 2,274, or 37% of votes; Alan Gagloyev has 3,686 votes, or 59.21%. As many as 236 people, or 3.79% of voters, voted against all candidates," CEC chairperson Emilia Gagiyeva said.

Runoff presidential election was held in South Ossetia on Sunday. Incumbent President Anatoly Bibilov and leader of the Nykhas political party Alan Gagloyev are vying for the presidential office. The winning candidate has to score a simple majority of votes.

The voter turnout was 68.2% as of 20:00 Moscow time, when polling stations were closed.
