G7 leaders determined not to let Russia win in Ukraine
The G7 and Ukraine stand united in this difficult time and in their quest to ensure Ukraine’s democratic, prosperous future, the statement reads
PARIS, May 8. /TASS/. The Group of Seven leaders have expressed their resolve that Russia "must not win" in Ukraine, according to a G7 statement released on Sunday.
"The G7 and Ukraine stand united in this difficult time and in their quest to ensure Ukraine’s democratic, prosperous future. We remain united in our resolve that President Putin must not win his war against Ukraine. We owe it to the memory of all those who fought for freedom in the Second World War, to continue fighting for it today, for the people of Ukraine, Europe and the global community," the statement reads.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in response to a request for help by the heads of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories, but aimed to demilitarize and denazify the country. Following this move, the United States and its allies imposed large-scale sanctions on Russia and began weapons supplies to Ukraine.
