Berlin police order to wrap up 25-meter long Ukrainian flag at Tiergarten memorial

BERLIN, May 8. /TASS/. The Berlin police, who previously restricted the use of political symbols on May 8 and 9, forced the demonstrators to wrap up a 25-meter flag of Ukraine near the Soviet memorial in Tiergarten.
"Our colleagues made sure that a Ukrainian flag about 25 meters long was wrapped up," the police tweeted Sunday. It was also reported by the RBB TV channel.
An event, organized by the Ukrainian embassy and dedicated to the anniversary of the end of World War II, is taking place near the Tiergarten memorial. The flag ban does not cover diplomats and official delegations.
Several rallies in support of Ukraine are taking place near the memorial. Meanwhile, several demonstrators protested against Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Andrey Melnik, chanting "Melnik, go away," the Berliner Morgenpost reported.
Previously, the Berlin police announced that they intend to minimize the risk of conflicts and provocations at the rallies, dedicated to the anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe and the Victory Day. To this extent, the police banned demonstration of Russian and Ukrainian flags, wearing military uniforms and singing wartime songs. There are many exceptions to this rule, though: they do not cover diplomats, official delegations and veterans.
