OPCW not to be trusted in case of chemical provocations in Ukraine — deputy UN envoy
Dmitry Polyansky expressed hope that no provocations will take place
UNITED NATIONS, April 25. /TASS/. The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) cannot be trusted to investigate potential chemical weapons provocations in Ukraine, Russian First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyansky told reporters Monday.
"Frankly, if it depended on me, I don’t have any credibility in the OPCW after what happened in Syria," Polyansky said. "The OPCW Technical Secretariat has proven to be absolutely pro-Western, anti-Russian and anti-Syrian."
The diplomat expressed his hope that no provocations will take place.
Earlier, Russian Nuclear, Chemical and Biological protection troops commander Igor Kirillov announced that the US is preparing provocations to accuse Russia of use of chemical, biological or tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine. According to Kirillov, Washington prepared three possible scenarios: a "staged false flag incident," a "covert use of WMDs in small volumes" and, the least possible - an "open use of WMDs on the battlefield.".
