Protest rally against arms supplies to Ukraine held in Sofia
The rally was initiated by the Vazrazhdane (Revival) party which led to the streets over 1,000 protesters from across the country
SOFIA, April 6. /TASS/. A rally against Bulgaria supplying weapons to Ukraine and demanding to terminate an agreement with the US on cooperation in the sphere of defense is being held on Wednesday in downtown Sofia, a TASS correspondent reports from the site.
The rally was initiated by the Vazrazhdane (Revival) party which led to the streets over 1,000 protesters from across the country.
"The party strongly opposes providing arms to Ukraine. The only role that Bulgaria may play is to become a mediator in settling the situation but, unfortunately, this is also impossible at the moment," the party’s leader Kostadin Kostadinov said. He also urged the Bulgarian government to resign since it is "not coping with the crisis that the country encountered."
Currently, the rally is underway. The police presence is increased in the central part of the city, no violations of public order have been registered.
On Wednesday, Bulgaria’s parliament reviewed the proposal by Vazrazhdane to terminate the agreement between Bulgaria and the US on cooperation in the sphere of defense. The initiative did not receive sufficient support needed for approval.
