Moldova to foil reexport of sanctioned goods to Russia, says president

The country’s financial bodies fully observe all bans imposed by international payments systems on Russian banks, Maia Sandu stressed

CHISINAU, April 4. /TASS/. The Moldovan government will not help Russia to evade western sanctions in trade, the republic’s President Maia Sandu told a press conference on Monday.

"We will foil reexports via the Republic of Moldova [to Russia]. It is under strict control, it is out of the question," she said, adding that the country’s financial bodies fully observed all bans imposed by international payments systems on Russian banks.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on February 24 that in response to a request by the heads of the Donbass republics he had made a decision to carry out a special military operation in Ukraine, stressing that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories. Western countries responded to the actions of the Russian authorities by slapping sanctions against physical and legal entities. Chisinau said it did not intend to interpose in the events in Ukraine or join the sanctions against Moscow.
