Turkish forces shell northern Syrian city of Ayn Issa, injuires reported — TV
Artillery and mortar fire was coming from the border security zone, created by the Turkish troops in 2019, Syria’s Alikhbaria TV reported
BEIRUT, April 2. /TASS/. Turkish artillery and armed groups of the Syrian opposition shelled the city of Ayn Issa and its outskirts in the north of the Raqqa governorate, Syria’s Alikhbaria TV reported.
According to the report, artillery and mortar fire was coming from the border security zone, created by the Turkish troops in 2019.
Injuries among local civilians were reported. Besides, some buildings were damaged.
Several projectiles exploded on the strategically important M4 highway, connecting Syria’s western and eastern regions and patrolled jointly by Russian and Turkish servicemen.
In the past, Turkey carried out three military operations in Syria: the Euphrates Shield, the Olive Branch and the Peace Spring. These operations led to the establishment of a buffer security between Syria’s A’zaz and Jarabulus, occupation of Afrin and seizure of control over the territory east of Euphrates.
