German police agency registers about 200 crimes against Russian nationals per week
The crimes range from insults and threats to property damage and physical violence, the Federal Criminal Police Office of Germany head Holger Munch told Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland
BERLIN, March 28. /TASS/. The Federal Criminal Police Office of Germany (BKA) has noted an increase in crimes against Russian nationals amid the situation in Ukraine, about 200 of such instances are being registered weekly, the agency’s head Holger Munch told Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland (RND) on Monday.
"The crimes are being committed against the members of our society of both Russian and Ukrainian origin. Currently, we are recording about 200 of such crimes per week, the majority of them have an anti-Russian tendency," he noted, specifying that the crimes range from insults and threats to property damage and physical violence.
Germany is currently experiencing a wave of severed ties with Russian institutions and companies amid the events in Ukraine. Social media users report cases of aggression against Russians and offensive graffiti on Russian institutions. The situation is aggravated by the fact that the flow of refugees from Ukraine is steadily growing. Earlier, the Russian Embassy in Berlin reported that it had received hundreds of reports from compatriots about the cases of harassment and violation of their rights.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a televised address that in response to a request by the heads of the Donbass republics he had made a decision to carry out a special military operation in order to protect people "who have been suffering from abuse and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years." The Russian leader stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories.
